Meet Our Staff
Marlen Jacobs, Hygienist
Marlen has been in the dental field in a variety of positions since 1965. Her passion for preventive dentistry was born from working with a periodontist in Northern California. As a result of her experience in that practice, she returned to school to get her degree in dental hygiene. In the early 70’s she launched a study group for general dentists to help them focus on teaching their patients preventive dental care prior to needing extensive gum tissue treatment. Her passion for helping patients keep their mouths healthy has been a driving force in her career. Additional advanced degree studies in psychology and clinical hypnotherapy has aided her in motivating patients to desire a higher degree of dental health while experiencing less anxiety.
Outside of work, Marlen is involved with her family which includes 5 sons and 8 grandchildren. She enjoys such hobbies as gardening, crafts, sewing, photography, reading and enjoying the outdoors. Her involvement with church includes grief recovery especially for children. Oftentimes, her beagle Sherlock is involved in the counseling sessions and is quite effective in comforting the children. Marlen’s most recent adventures include returning to school to pursue writing for children. She and her beagle Sherlock, are co-authoring a series of books helping children deal with difficult grief issues.
